We have been proud to bring School Band & Orchestra for free for more than two decades and we will continue to provide you with free subscriptions during the pandemic. As educators plan for the 21st century, there’s a big push to focus on STEM subjects. Some parents and teachers worry this will come at the expense of the arts but the town of Foxboro is making sure that isn’t happening there. As you watch these children gather instruments and focus their attention you might mistake this for a conservatory of music. But these are 5th graders at Ahern Middle School in Foxboro where music is at the center of the school.

Read More...Continuing in its mission to assist drum teachers, the SABIAN Education Network recently held events in Nashville, TN, and San Antonio, TX. Each event was led by SEN director Joe Bergamini and included a panel of education experts who shared information and ideas with the attendees. The Nashville event was held October 27, 2015 and the panelists included business coach and former music industry executive Rick Drumm, Drumming’s Global Ambassador Dom Famularo, international touring and recording artist Rich Redmond, and well-known Nashville educator Zig Wajler. The San Antonio, TX event was held November 14, 2015, during PASIC, and the panel consisted of Dom Famularo, PAS Drum-set Committee Chairman Eric C. Hughes, and veteran Austin-based teacher Nic Marcy.

The program aims to honor music educators across the country that exemplify outstanding achievements in music education. A formal award presentation will take place during the 69th Annual Midwest Conference in Chicago at the Palmer House Hilton on December 17th from 6 p.m. -10 p.m. Music & Arts’ president, Steve Zapf, will present the award.

Wenger’s groundbreaking Transcend Active Acoustic System won the award for Best Other Audio Product, while the Transform Motorized Acoustical Banner brought home two honors: Best Acoustical Treatment Product and the prestigious Best Overall Building Treatment award.
“The judging panel responded to the versatility of Transcend for spoken word and music. The system has very appealing qualities for churches,” said Jim Wagner, Managing Director of Worship Facilities Expo, adding, “The Transform Motorized Acoustical Banner could provide flexibility to a wide variety of church spaces. The program features Elliott Carter's Figment I for cello alone (1994); David Fulmer's Original Wood (2015) with Juilliard alumnus, pianist Conor Hanick; the world premiere of Jason Eckardt's Practical Alchemy (2015); Matthias Pintscher's Janusgesicht (2001) with Juilliard alumnus, violist David Fulmer; and Charles Wuorinen's Orbicle of Jasp (1999) with pianist Conor Hanick. Mr. Campbell is currently in the Artist Diploma program at Juilliard where he studies with cellist Fred Sherry.
