The D’Addario Foundation is establishing the Kevin Garren Scholarship, a memorial scholarship that encourages creative problem solving for musicians and music educators.
For ten years, Kevin worked alongside the D’Addario Family and company to develop innovative product solutions for the music community of which he was both a member and valued benefactor.
“Kevin approached every aspect of life with one guiding characteristic: human excellence,” says Bill Wrightson, Vice President of Band & Orchestra at D’Addario. “Whether developing products, engaging in his award-winning musical career, or in fellowship with those communities he was a part of, the question ‘How can I make this better for others?’ guided his thinking. During his 10 years at D’Addario, Kevin brought this thinking to the many innovative solutions he developed for woodwind players around the world.
Kevin tragically passed away in 2021 and to honor his legacy, this memorial scholarship was established for college juniors, seniors, or post-graduates enrolled in an accredited university studying product/industrial design, engineering, music business, or Woodwinds performance. Recipients will be awarded $2000 a year to be used for costs associated with their education including tuition, food, transportation, and/or supplies.
Applications for Fall 2022 funding are due by July 15, 2022. To learn more and apply for the scholarship, please visit: https://ddar.io/KevinGarren.
