DC Jazz Festival’s international band competition is actively accepting applications. Young and emerging jazz ensembles from around the world are encouraged to apply. The entry fee is $25 per band and the application deadline is April 27, 2021.
More details from DC Jazz Festival (www.dcjazzfest.org):
Applications are now being accepted for the DC Jazz Festival’s annual international jazz band competition, the DCJazzPrix. Ensembles from around the world will compete for the $15,000 grand prize, has your band applied?
Different from other competitions, DCJazzPrix puts an emphasis on showcasing jazz bands and recognizing the essential interactions between band members as the core pursuit of the jazz aesthetic.
A prestigious jury evaluates eligible applications based on artistic excellence and artistic merit. At the end of the evaluation period, three finalist bands will be announced and invited to Washington, DC to compete in the DCJazzPrix Finals as part of 17th Annual DC JazzFest.
The DCJazzPrix winning band will receive a $15,000 cash award, year-long professional assessment benefits including career strategies, a (paid) New York City engagement in the 2020/2021 season at Tribeca Performing Arts Center (TPAC) as part of TPAC’s annual Jazz In Progress Young Artist Series, and a paid main stage engagement during the 2022 DC JazzFest.
To be eligible to apply, bands must be comprised of 2-9 members and each band member must be at least 18 years old, but not older than 45, as of April 1, 2021. Potential applicants will find additional submission guidelines and the full list of eligibility requirements at dcjazzfest.org/dcjazzprix. The entry fee remains a modest $25 per band and the application deadline is April 27, 2021 at 11:59 pm ET.
DCJazzPrix is made possible thanks to the generous support of the Leonard and Elaine Silverstein Family Foundation; and the DCJazzPrix award thanks to Conrad Kenley, and the Galena-Yorktown Foundation.
