I had the great fortune to visit Iowa and attend the most recent Iowa Bandmasters Association gathering in Des Moines. There are a lot of great things they are doing in Iowa to promote and advocate on behalf of music and arts education.
While in Iowa, I ran into Ray Cramer, emeritus professor of Indiana University – another legend of music education and someone whom I have long admired. Ray was at IBA to give the keynote address.
I was so inspired by the spirit and message conveyed in Ray’s remarks that I immediately begged him to let me share them with all of you. Being the gracious person that he is, he agreed.
