Baltimore Music Students Honor 100-Year-Old Teacher

A group of former students recently gathered in a Baltimore church to celebrate the 100th birthday of their former teacher, Lucille Marcus Brooks. A group of former students recently gathered in a Baltimore church to celebrate the 100th birthday of their former teacher, Lucille Marcus Brooks. The crowd of reportedly 150 joined Brooks as admiring students, some of whome had studied under her over half a century ago at Dunbar, Carver, and Lake Clifton high schools in the area. McCallum herself was the first African-American to graduate from Baltimore’s esteemed Peabody Preparatory School. She later attended the Peabody Conservatory.
