The therapeutic power of music was in deep focus at last weekend’s “Life @50+,” the AARP National Event & Expo in New Orleans. Including an opening drum circle and an ongoing music making pavilion, the festival encouraged attendees to give serious consideration to the positive effects that music making has on the brain.

An interactive panel’s rhythm and brain health experts aimed to “bang the drum” for additional research on the positive interplay between music and cognitive health. Introduced by Mary Luehrsen from the NAMM, Saturday’s panel was a must-see. NAMM also supports the ever-popular music-making pavilion, which includes an invigorating rhythm experience to “drum” home the importance of music making to maintain a healthy brain throughout life.
