Deadline Nears for 2014 NAfME-SRME Grant Proposals

The National Association for Music Education (NAfME) and the Society for Research in Music Education recently announced a request for proposals for a research project to investigate delivery mechanisms for in-service professional development for music educators. Results will be used to inform NAfME policy regarding provision of professional development activities for NAfME members. The grant will be up to $10,000 for a project to be completed between May 2014 and March 2016.

For those hoping to apply, NAfME asks that you send the proposal as an email attachment in doc, .docx or .pdf format to Janice Killian, Chair, Executive Committee of the Society for Research in Music Education (SRME), at [email protected] by March 1, 2014.Only electronic submissions will be accepted. Please review the required proposal format.

Proposal Format:

1. Cover page (not to exceed one page):

a. Proposal title
b. Name and affiliation of principal and co-investigators
c. Abstract (150 words)

2. Proposal (not to exceed four single-spaced pages):

a. Purpose of the proposal including project rationale
b. Description of research design and procedures
c. Plan for analysis
d. Plan for assessment and dissemination of outcomes
e. Potential contribution of outcomes to the advancement of knowledge in music education
f. Timeline

3. Itemized Budget, including designation of funds for assessment and dissemination of outcomes

4. Principal and co-investigators’ curriculum vitae (not to exceed three pages each)

Decision Process:

The SRME Executive Committee will evaluate all proposals on the basis of project completeness, design and procedures quality, potential worth of outcomes, and likelihood of completion. The SRME Executive Committee will nominate a proposal to the NAfME National Executive Board (NEB) for final approval. All applicants will be notified of the final decision via email in May, 2014.

Submission of Final Report:

A final report (APA style), a 150-word abstract, and a 750-word executive summary must be submitted to the SRME Executive Committee Chair no later than March 1, 2016. NAfME reserves the right to publish a summary of the results in NAfME journals, press releases, and newsletters, and on the NAfME website.

Future Funding Proposals:

It is anticipated that, thanks to NAfME funding, SRME will solicit similar research proposals annually with a two-year completion timeline
