The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) has received a grant from General Motors (GM) to expand the Soundcard student discount program.
Created under the leadership of music director Leonard Slatkin, Soundcard allows students of any age to attend more than 100 DSO concerts for an annual fee of $25.
The GM grant aims to expand access to the orchestra with the creation of Soundcard sampler weekends. During these weekends, students interested in Soundcard can attend concerts for $5 and pay the remaining $20 to join the program afterwards. Additionally, companions of members—including parents or other non-student attendees ineligible for the Soundcard membership—can pay $5 to attend sampler weekend concerts rather than purchasing full-price tickets.
