GRAMMY Educator of the Year from New Hampshire Wins Disney Performing Arts Workshop for Local Students

Mike Lawson • News • October 22, 2015

2015 GRAMMY Music Educator Award recipient Jared Cassedy of New Hampshire joined a lucky group of his high school music students in a world-class Disney Performing Arts workshop.

As part of a rare opportunity, Disney Performing Arts brought its renowned program on the road to Windham High School in Windham, New Hampshire and staged its popular “You’re Instrumental” workshop for Cassedy’s students. The workshop was led by Disney Performing Arts Program Coordinator Allen Gray, who has been a Teaching Artist for the “You’re Instrumental” workshop for more than 15 years.

Throughout the workshop, Cassedy’s students honed their sight-reading and instrumental skills and prepared for a special finale in which they recorded their own music to a classic scene from a Disney animated film.

In February, the GRAMMY Foundation and the Recording Foundation recognized Cassedy’s remarkable impact on his students as well as his contributions to music education by presenting him with a GRAMMY award, flying him to Los Angeles where he received a $10,000 honorarium and attended the famous GRAMMY Awards Ceremony. As part of the award, Disney Performing Arts celebrated Cassedy’s achievement by staging the workshop for his class.
