LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLORIDA –The 2016 GRAMMY Music Educator Award recipient Phillip Riggs, a teacher at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, N.C., will visit Walt Disney World Resort April 2, during Disney Performing Arts’ annual series of Festival Disney competitions held during select weekends from March to May.
On Feb. 15, the GRAMMY Foundation and the Recording Foundation recognized Riggs’ remarkable impact on his students as well as his contributions to music education by presenting him with a GRAMMY Award and donating funding to his school during the famous GRAMMY Awards Ceremony in Los Angeles.
To celebrate his achievement, Disney Performing Arts will honor him during the awards ceremony for Festival Disney at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon. Additionally, Disney Performing Arts will conduct a private workshop at his school in Durham, N.C for his class this fall.
Riggs is the third recipient of the annual Music Educator Award presented by The Recording Academy and the GRAMMY Foundation. He has taught various levels of band and choir in North Carolina for the past 27 years.
Disney Performing Arts is endorsed by the GRAMMY Foundation and is a proud co-sponsor of the Music Educator Award. Disney Performing Arts is part of Disney Youth Programs, which includes the Youth Education Series – learning adventures designed to increase students’ desire to learn and discover, to encourage them to reach their individual potential, and to showcase the importance of teamwork.
