Mike Lawson • News • March 1, 2018

On Sunday, March 25 at 2:00 p.m., Harry Bicket will conduct Handel’s Rinaldo at Carnegie Hall with acclaimed baroque orchestra The English Concert.

In this concert presentation, countertenor Iestyn Davies performs the title role joined by sopranos Jane Archibald (Armida) and Joélle Harvey (Almirena), bass-baritone Luca Pisaroni (Argante), mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke (Goffredo), and countertenors Jakub Józef Orliński, (Eustazio), and James Hall (A Christian Magician).

A pre-concert talk will begin at 1:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage with Benjamin Sosland, assistant dean for the Kovner Fellowships, administrative director of Juilliard Historical Performance, The Juilliard School.

This concert marks the sixth year of an acclaimed multi-year Handel operas and oratorios project by Harry Bicket, The English Concert, and Carnegie Hall. This initiative began in 2013 with Radimistowith David Daniels as the eponymous hero. It has continued in each subsequent season, with performances including Handel’s oratorio Theodora; mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato singing the title roles in both Alcina and Ariodante and Iestyn Davies in the title role of Orlando. In April 2019, Bicket and The English Concert present a concert performance of Handel’s Semele with soprano Brenda Rae singing the title role, joined by mezzo-soprano Elizabeth DeShong (Juno/Ino), bass Soloman Howard (Cadmus/Somnus), tenor Benjamin Hulett (Jupiter), countertenor Christopher Lowrey (Athamas), and soprano Ailish Tynan (Iris), along with The Clarion Choir (Steven Fox, Artistic Director).
