Interlochen Arts Camp has announced the start of a new day camp experience for local residents, offering top-level arts instruction to their northern Michigan neighbors at a substantial tuition savings.

Beginning in June of 2018, day camp programs will be offered as an option for local students currently enrolled in grades 6 though 12, allowing families in the northern Michigan area to enroll their middle and high school students in three and six-week programs in Intermediate and High School Wind Symphony, Orchestra, Choir and Dance. Day camp will allow these students to commute to and from the Interlochen campus, while providing them with the same top-quality arts instruction as full-time Campers at a more than 50 percent savings on tuition. The reduced tuition for Interlochen’s new day camp programs for local residents begins with three week programs in Intermediate and High School Dance and Music both starting at $2100, and six week programs in High School Music starting at $3200. Limited space is available and some auditions are required.

This was previously an option for employee families, but not for the general public. Trey Devey, president of Interlochen Center for the Arts, says it is part of a continuing outreach to Interlochen’s neighbors.

“Our local community is important to Interlochen, and it’s important to me. Our doors are open and we welcome our neighbors to join us in taking advantage of the incredible learning opportunities at Interlochen,” he says. “It is my hope to continue to create and enhance our programs and local collaborations, building partnerships that positively impact our community through the power of the arts.”

Day camp programs will run from roughly 9 a.m. to 5 p.m, Tuesday through Saturday, with some Monday rehearsals for musicians. Programs include classes and electives taught by Interlochen’s world-class faculty and international guest artists. Lunch and workshops are also included, allowing day campers the important opportunity of making new friends from around the world.
