Honoring Service
Since 1985, the Drum Corps International Hall of Fame has honored outstanding achievements of marching music’s creators, administrators, instructors, judges, and others with significant contributions to the activity. This year, three highly talented inductees will join the current members of the prestigious Hall of Fame.
John Meehan – Brass instructor and arranger, Meehan has been a part of the Blue Devils brass staff since 1994, helping to lead the corps to an impressive number of Jim Ott Best Brass Performance awards and DCI World Championship titles.
Bob Morrison – Front ensemble percussion arranger, Morrison is known by many as “the father of the front ensemble,” and he has also been a tireless advocate for music education in schools through his work at the National Association of Music Merchants where he oversaw the promotion and implementation of the National Standards for Arts Education, spearheaded the battle to have the arts included in federal law as a core subject, and led the creation of the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation.
Douglas Thrower – Brass instructor and arranger, Thrower enjoyed a long and successful career as a brass instructor and arranger for several Canadian drum corps before joining the Bluecoats where he has spent nearly three decades playing a critical role in the corps’ success.
Each of these individuals have touched countless lives through their years of arduous instruction and innovation. Without dedication like theirs and so many like them, marching music excellence would not be possible. Their formal induction ceremony will take place during the 2019 World Championships in Indianapolis in August.
