JEN Establishes Jamey Aebersold Endowed Scholarship

The Jazz Education Network (JEN) recently announced the establishment of the Jamey Aebersold Endowed Scholarship, which will be awarded annually at the JEN Conference to a college student exhibiting genuine passion and dedication to jazz education.

The scholarship is named after respected and acclaimed jazz educator Jamey Aebersold, whose more than fifty years of pioneering jazz education have impacted an immeasurable number of aspiring jazz players, students and teachers worldwide.

“Jamey’s countless groundbreaking publications and global distribution of educational jazz materials, along with his more than five decades of summer jazz camps, clinics, and advocacy for jazz education, make him well-deserving of this honor,” says Bob Sinicrope, past president of JEN and a decades-long music educator and performer. “It is only fitting that JEN establishes this scholarship as an everlasting tribute to Jamey’s dedication to jazz and generosity to students and educators alike.”

JEN has committed to raising $100,000 during the next three years to endow the scholarship, and is reaching out to the public to help it achieve that goal through donations and pledges. To date, $67,000 has been raised, placing the final goal within clear sight.
