Opera Theater San Antonio has been renamed The Opera San Antonio (TOSA) as part of the organization’s transformation into a premier opera company, reports the San Antonio Business Journal. In addition, the organization has secured $500,000 in seed funding from a variety of groups, including a $182,500 grant from the San Antonio Department for Culture and Creative Development and a $150,000 challenge grant from the Kronkosky Charitable Foundation and the Tobin Endowment.

TOSA will host its debut gala concert with the San Antonio Symphony on May 23, 2013 at the Majestic Theater. TOSA will move to the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts in 2015. The community is investing $100 million in public-private funds to transform the Municipal Auditorium into the Tobin Center.
