Roger O. Doyle, longtime director of choirs at the University of Portland, has passed away from Lou Gehrig’s disease at the age of 72. Doyle’s remarkable teaching and conducting career spanned five decades, including stops at several high schools before his 37-year engagement in the Portland choral community and with the University. He was also a past president of the Oregon Choral Directors Association and the founder of the annual Best in the Northwest Choir Festival, an event that brings thousands of high school students to Portland.

A service will be held in his honor on June 23 that will feature three choirs, an orchestra, and a video of some of the highlights of Doyle’s musical life. For more information, read the obituary from the University of Portland here [http://up.edu/shownews.aspx?id=4582].
