The ‘Flexcel Jazz Combo’ Series and ‘Solo Styles for Christmas’ from Excelcia

Mike Lawson • Instruments & Gear • November 9, 2020

Excelcia Music Publishing now offers four new flexible holiday works for Jazz Combo, arranged by Blair Bielawski.

These newly engraved, flexible grade 3 combos are scored in three parts by key (not by instrument) with lines in C, Bb, Eb, and Bass Clef.  With the Flexcel Jazz Combo series charts, jazz educators can mix and match any of the three lines.  For further options and flexibility, lines for Horn in F, Tuba and octave adjusted Tenor Saxophone are included.  New titles in the series, arranged by Blair Bielawski, are Go Tell It on the Mountain, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, We Wish You a Merry Christmas and Joy to the World.  $45 each.

Excelcia Music Publishing is also expanding its string offerings to include Viola, Cello and Bass books, along with its Violin book in this popular holiday series, edited by Diana Traietta. Written for genuine flexible solo use, each Solo Styles for Christmas contains 15 favorite Christmas carols newly arranged in over 25 popular music styles.

Each carol is arranged in three distinct popular musical style arrangements, which go along with free downloadable play-along tracks in each style.  Every solo offers an opportunity to improvise and learn the basics of improvisation including written improvisation examples that are fun to play. Popular musical styles such as Jazz, Latin, Pop and Country are included in Solo Styles for Christmas. Books in the Solo Styles for Christmas series are ready for use in digital E-book versions and physical copy versions.  They are available for Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass, Flute, Bb Clarinet, Alto Saxophone or Baritone Saxophone, Bb Trumpet and Euphonium or Trombone or Bassoon.  $12.99.
