SBO+: I get asked to present quite a few conducting workshops, especially for busy music educators who may not have the time or money to attend the many summer symposia that are out there. From time to time, I will share some of the things I often include in those workshops.
Your Equipment
The baton
Measure from the crook of your elbow to end of index finger to find an ideal length.
Thick shaft is less stressful on your joints and more visible.
White is more visible than natural.
No wrist watches ever!
The podium. Adjusted to your height and layout of the band.
Metronome. Have one on the stand, even if you don’t ever use it. A must for recording.
Your music stand. Make sure it will securely hold your scores and has a place to put “used ones.”
