It is a strange and trying time for all of us in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. We certainly understand times are tough for you, as it is for us. We have been proud to bring School Band & Orchestra for free for more than two decades and we will continue to provide you with free subscriptions during the pandemic. However, we would like your consideration in these difficult times to help support our efforts here at School Band & Orchestra to keep our information flowing and to provide you with a continuous stream of current and vital information when you need it the most.

MacArthur Fundamental Intermediate School in Santa Ana recently won a $5,000 Yamaha musical instrument package consisting of a viola, a cello, and a euphonium in the company’s recent Quest for Music Education online contest.
The Quest for Music Education contest consisted of a series of online quests at usa.yamaha.com that covered a variety of topics, including Yamaha Artists, Yamaha Internships and Music Advocacy. Winning schools tallied the largest participation rate.
Yamaha awarded three First Place prizes of $20,000 in instruments, three Second Place prizes of $10,000 in instruments, and two Third Place prizes of $5,000 in instruments in three categories: elementary/middle schools, high schools and colleges/universities. Winning schools chose the instruments that made up their prize package to best serve their programs.

2. Arroyo Valley High School, San Bernadino, California (YM1430C marimba, two YAS-26 alto saxophones, two YTS-26 tenor saxophones, YSL-448G trombone, two VC3S44 cellos)
3. San Diego State University, California (six YBH-301M marching baritone horns)
Second Place:
1. Somerset Canyons Middle School, West Boynton Beach, Florida (two YBB-105WC tubas, one CCH2 –two-tiered cymbal stand)
2. Round Rock High School, Round Rock, Texas (one YHR-668NII French horn and one YOB-441M oboe)
3. VanderCook College of Music, Chicago (one YAS62III alto saxophone and one YBL-830 XENO trombone)
Third Place:
1. MacArthur Fundamental Intermediate School, Santa Ana, California (one AVA5-140SK viola, one YEP-201 euphonium and one VC3S44 cello)
2. Broad Run High School, Ashburn, Virginia (one YEP-321 euphonium, one YCL-255 clarinet and one YPC-32 piccolo)
