In celebration of Chinese New Year, the Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra will make their Detroit debut with a one-night-only Chinese New Year concert in Orchestra Hall, home of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO).

Conducted by Zhang Yi, the orchestra will perform popular and traditional Chinese works as well as classical music selections, including Tchaikovsky’s Andante Cantabile for Cello and Strings with DSO Principal Cello Wei Yu.

The concert will take place Monday, February 19 at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m., and preconcert activities including Chinese calligraphy, kung fu, and yo-yo demonstrations will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the William Davidson Atrium, in collaboration with members of the local Chinese community including the American Chinese School of Greater Detroit and the Michigan New Century Chinese School.

The concert is general admission and all seating is first-come, first-served. Tickets are available on a pay-what-you-can basis, with five options ranging from $1 to $50.

The event is sponsored by MGM Grand Detroit and Michigan China Innovation Center. The DSO wishes to thank Consul General Hong Lei of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Chicago for his office’s continued partnership and support.
