The Jazz Studies program at DePaul School of Music offers courses in applied jazz, jazz improvisation, theory, history, arranging and composition, and pedagogy, along with jazz ensembles and combos. Drawing upon the resources of the Chicago jazz scene, faculty members are highly celebrated performers, teachers, composers and arrangers. The program is directed by drummer Dana Hall and the faculty includes: Scott Burns, saxophone; Dennis Carroll, bass; Tim Coffman, trombone; Bob Lark, trumpet and Jazz Ensemble; Tom Matta, arranging and composition and bass trombone; Chad McCullough, trumpet; Bob Palmieri, guitar; Ron Perrillo, piano; Bob Rummage, drum set; Justin Thomas, vibraphone; Bradley Williams, jazz history.
Alumni of the program include two Thelonious Monk competition winners, Marquis Hill and Jon Irabagon, as well as Orbert Davis, Rudresh Mahathanpa, and Frank Catalano.
